Fine Wine and Dining, Marlborough Style

Marlborough is famous the world over for its fine wines, and you will find yourself conveniently near many delightful Marlborough wineries, perfect for sampling, tours, and dining. Hosted wine tours can pickup and drop off from your accommodation for half or full day tours. We provide Marlborough wine maps and local advice for self drive to select wineries, many wineries offer platters or gourmet lunches; we can recommend the best. Your accommodation is only five minutes from the Herzog Luxury Restaurant or a mere 15 minutes from the idyllic village cafés and restaurants of Havelock.

Havelock is also the proud Greenshell Mussel Capital of the World, offering delectable green-lipped mussels fresh from the pristine waters of the Marlborough Sounds. The Marlborough Sounds are a seafood lover’s paradise, with fresh fish, crayfish, and shellfish a plenty.

Seeking New Zealand’s Adventure Experiences?

Marlborough offers both brilliant fresh and salt water fishing, and your hosts will happily arrange a trip to "the perfect spot" for trout fishing along our pristine rivers, or a dusk trip to a quiet bay to snag a good sized snapper.

Or perhaps treat yourself to outdoor pursuits such as horse riding the local farmland, exploring the Marlborough Sounds or the Pelorus River by kayak. Your host's local knowledge can have you paddling on glassy waters with an experienced guide or just yourselves. Jefferswood is only thirty minutes drive from the famous native bush-lined Queen Charlotte Track or your hosts can set you off with a packed lunch on one of the many short or long day hikes we have done ourselves that offer an enjoyable, satisfying days outing that is not too arduous.

Marlborough also offers several excellent golf courses around the Blenheim township, or if you love to be in the sea why not take the chance to swim with dolphins or learn to dive in the Marlborough Sounds. Active eco-tours or bird-watching while paddling the Vernon Lagoon with a guide are special experiences.

With luck you'll be escorted by dolpins around the Marlborough Sounds. Hike from Jefferswood to overlook Havelock and the Marlborough Sounds.

Rest and Relaxation

The historic township of Havelock also offers a working marina, a museum of timber milling history, and many interesting small shops to wander around. The beautiful drive along Queen Charlotte Sound brings you to Picton, where the day can be spent sightseeing, enjoying lunch overlooking the harbour, and watching the busy ferry terminal that connects to the North Island.

Other restful activities include cruises in the Marlborough Sounds by Mailboat, private working farm tours, and enjoying the several stunning gardens open to the public in the Marlborough region. Your accommodation is perfectly located in the heart of the regional craft trail, with a marvellous range of arts and crafts throughout Marlborough and Nelson. Private studio visits can be arranged following the most picturesque driving route.

Further afield a leisurely two hour trip down the spectacular coastal highway brings you to Kaikoura, Maori for "to eat crayfish", offering a mecca of seafood and most famously breathtaking whale, dolphin and seal watching, amongst many other activities.

Your hosts have many contacts in the region and can arrange most outdoor pursuits and eco-tours.

After leaving you we spent a fascinating hour or so in the WW2 aircraft museum. Thank you for that suggestion. It was certainly something different

Many thanks for the recommendation about Roger and the sea kayaking. We had a very good half day on the Saturday, thanks for getting him to contact us. We also thoroughly enjoyed walking the Queen Charlotte Track which was excellent.
